We've been jamming to Thundercat's The Beyond/Where The Giants Roam since he unexpectedly dropped it in our laps late last month. But apparently we weren't the only ones listening. Rapper/producer brandUn DeShay took notice of the project and, after a chance meeting with the bass phenom himself, got the go ahead to remix a track from Thundercat's latest. Taking on the nearly six-minute, Herbie Hancock-featuring "Lone Wolf and Cub" was gutsy move, but it seems to have paid off.
For his remix, brandUn strips back the guitar and some of the more experimental elements of the track, instead focusing on building upon the meaty R&B groove found once the song's chorus begins. From there, he stretches things out with a bit of cowbell, some added synths and a few of his own added ad libs for good measure. By doing so, brandUn turns the track into the perfect fusion of Thundercat's and his sensibilities, so then it only makes sense that brandUn also spits a bit after the groove gets going.
In addition to remixing Thundercat, brandUn has been hard at work on his upcoming project, goldUn Child, which he hopes to release sometime this year. Until that sees the light of day, you can take a listen to his remix, which he's offering up for free download.
