Yuna Puts Her Own Spin On Drake's 'Bling' & Justin Bieber, Announces Fall Tour

It's been a minute since we've heard from Malaysian singer/songwriter Yuna on the solo tip. That, however, doesn't mean that she hasn't busy. Besides sitting in for a few guest spots on albums for the likes of The Internet and Disney tribute album We Love Disney, the singer has been traversing the globe and delighting international audiences. And when she's not doing that, it seems that she's been content with quietly making covers of pop hits.

In the past two weeks, the singer has set her sights on Drake's ubiquitous (and often covered) banger "Hotline Bling" and Justin Bieber's popular "What Do You Mean?," to varying degrees of success. She takes on "Bling" with her trademark quiet reserve, giving the song an icy chill and emotional depth with a simple vocal adorned only by a few spare notes from her keyboard. But it's what she does with so little that makes her take worthy of a listen, choosing perfect moments to layer her vocal or add just the right harmonic counterpoint with backing vocals to play up the loneliness of the lyric. For "What Do You Mean?," it's even simpler, as she admittedly "messed around with [her] keyboard" late one night to recreate the song. It's a restrained, emotional take on the pulsing pop number, but lacking the layered vocals and harmonies, it doesn't pop as much.

Whichever track you enjoy, however, there's a chance you might get to see them live when Yuna embarks on her fall tour. Kicking off this Wednesday in Singapore, the singer will play eleven dates, nine of which are in U.S. cities, including Washington, DC; Brooklyn; Seattle and Los Angeles.  You can head below to stream her covers of "Hotline Bling" (which is available as a free download) and "What Do You Mean?" as well as get the full list of dates and venues for her tour.
