Mya back. The songstress and DMV native is aiming to make a move on our hearts this February when she drops her brand new album Smoove Jones on February 14th via her indie label Planet 9. She's already teased the project with songs like "Welcome To My World" and "Team You," and now she's ready to make us move up and down with her latest single, "Elevator."

Mya decides to address the ups and downs that life throws at you and celebrating making it through. With a chunky electronic bass groove providing the track's back bone and sped-up vocal samples along with simple synth flourishes, Mya addresses the "haters" who might be trying to bring her down. Put quite simply, their hate did nothing but motivate, as now she's flying high and elevating on her own terms. In fact, she's so elevated that she decides to deliver a hot little 16 near the track's end. Mya shouldn't give up singing on the mic anytime soon, to be sure, but we would be hating if didn't acknowledge that her unexpected flow here wasn't half bad. Do we sense a new singer/rapper alter ego coming soon?

Yes, an artist addressing their haters via song is so last decade, but the uptempo number, with its slightly throwback production, seems to actually work for her. "Elevator" is available now on iTunes, but you can try before you buy by pressing play below.
