With Christmas practically on our door step, you'd think our holiday playlist would be solidified by now. But artists are still dropping seasonal gems left and right, leaving us with no choice but to expand our music library. Philly's own DJ Jazzy Jeff and jazz musician/producer/remixer Daniel Crawford are the latest artists to impress our auditory sensibilities with their jazz hop refix "Xmas is Coming!!!."
The collaboration is inspired by Vince Guaraldi Trio's classic instrumental "Christmas is Coming." The piano-driven nostalgic tune is given a sleek update with hip hop drums, frosty synth and festive sleigh bells for a touch of child-like whimsy. Jeff has visited the Guaraldi catalogue in the past (remember his incredible "Xmas Time" collaboration with the artist formally known as Ayah?), and he proves once again that he knows how to infuse a classic with his original style.
DJ Jazzy Jeff has a lot coming up for 2016, including a planned reunion tour with former partner Will "Fresh Prince" Smith.
