Fantasia

Between her show-stopping concerts and captivating TV appearances (she's become a staple on many specials and awards shows), it's almost hard to believe that Fantasia's last studio output was 2013's Side Effects of You. To be fair, three years really isn't that long ago. But we love Fantasia's brassy, gospel-steeped, blues-soaked soul. And after slaying us time and time again (Black Girls Rock 2015, anyone?), she has no one but herself to blame for making us a little impatient for some new music.

Well, it seems Mrs. Barrino-Taylor has been paying attention because in December she delivered some big news. The platinum artist is under new management (Primary Wave Entertainment) and has been hard at work writing and recording new music for a proposed 2016 release. "I have been blessed to continue doing what I love to do for 12 years. This journey has not always been easy, but my fight to continue singing has molded me into the woman that I am....Change had to come, and this one in particular feels Oh So Good! It’s time!!”

In addition to the new project, she's also slated to make several guest appearances and performances throughout the final season of American Idol, which begins on January 6th. This will be a bittersweet homecoming of sorts as she helps bring an end to the show that thrust her into the spotlight almost 12 years ago. Though this down-to-earth powerhouse has gone on to conquer Broadway and the literary world, there's a void in the airwaves that only she can fill. Here's hoping that our wait will end in 2016. -- B.
