During her opening monologue for the 2016 Soul Train Awards, hostess Erykah Badu promised to take us back to the '90s and she more than delivered. The throwback vibe was felt throughout the evening thanks to some epic medleys and tributes. The harmonies of Dru Hill's amazing performance brought to mind the dominance of male R&B groups during the era. But Carl Thomas, the talented crooner that "made us all want to rock an S-curl," reminded us that the solo brothas certainly held their own.
After his recent stint on the successful Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, Mr. Thomas was in fine form and immediately took us back in time, beginning his medley with a snippet of his heartbreaking ballad "Emotional." Dressed in all white (reminiscent of the song's visuals sans leading lady Stacey Dash), the dapper singer had the crowd on its feet when he segued into "Summer Rain" and "I Wish" with the fellas singing along just as enthusiastically as the ladies. His matured vocals sounded great and left us hopeful that he'll be blessing us with some new music in the near future.
