MNEK, we love you — we really do — but you habitually play with our emotions. In fact, you and your constant stream of singles before finally, mercifully giving us your Small Talk EP were the catalyst for us even doing these lists in the first place. But last year you reverted back to your teasing ways. In May (May!), you gave us your infectious single “At Night (I Think About You)” and then dropped off the video early in the next month. Then there was your cover of Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” which came in October. But other than that — and your hilarious presence on social media — you’ve been scarce. What gives?
While we understand that you were off doing big things like landing co-writing credits on Beyoncé’s Lemonade and working with your host of collaborators, we’re still a bit miffed. But you know how you can make it up to us? By going ahead and dropping a proper full-length debut showcasing your unique hybrid of soul, R&B and dance music that we’ve come to know and most definitely love. Can you do that for us?
