Snoh Aalegra & Vince Staples Create Steam With 'Nothing Burns Like The Cold'

Even though we are music lovers/supporters, it's hard not to get a bit annoyed and frustrated with "the business" in general. One thing that really grinds our gears is how some artists are given leeway to drop mediocre albums with alarming frequency (How can we miss you if you never go away?), while others (read: artists who we actually want new music from) seem to be trapped in industry limbo. Take Snoh Aalegra, for example. The cinematic soulstress serves up an intoxicating blend of talent and beauty that we just can't get enough of. Quite honestly, her mini album Don't Explain was one of the best projects of 2016. And the subsequent release of "Feels" left us hopeful that a video and full-length project would soon follow. Yet here we are, three years after her initial debut and nary a long player to her credit. Thankfully her new single "Nothing Burns Like the Cold" has given us reason to hope again, so we won't uncross our fingers just yet.

Ms. Aalegra's last offering left us with the warm fuzzies, but the relationship has since cooled and left her pleading, "Can we talk about us...like we care about us?" The Christian Rich production is another knockout as Snoh's voice smolders over the coldest use of Isaac Hayes' "Ike's Rap II/Help Me Love" since Alessia Cara's "Here." Old school DJ scratches further fan the throwback flames while Vince Staples injects some serious chill with a charismatic verse. It's good to hear the Cali-based artists have retained the musical chemistry previously displayed on Staples' "Jump Off the Roof," but really, we're just happy to have some newness from one of our favorite Swedish imports. Grab Snoh Aalegra's "Nothing Burns Like the Cold" from iTunes and show her some love on Twitter and Instagram while we wait for the full project.
