After The Foreign Exchange got the audience at the Washington, D.C. stop of the NuSoul Revival Tour hyped up with their energetic opening set, Dwele was up next to mellow things out. The smooth neo-soul crooner was dressed like a Dapper Dan in a tailored navy blue suit that had the ladies swooning at the sight of him as much as the sound of his vocals did. That was when you could hear Dwele, however; the first few minutes of his set were hampered by microphone issues that made it difficult to make out what he was singing. Once the technical issues were resolved, though, Dwele turned things up a notch, played his flugelhorn and even climbed up into the balcony to serenade and dance with concertgoers who happily sang and two-stepped along. While making his way downstairs to the main floor of Constitution Hall, Mr. Gardner even treated fans to his groovy new song with Phife Dawg, "Wanna Dance," that had everyone on their feet and doing just that.
