Tay Walker Drops 'Wanna Be' & Gets 'Signed'

Thanks to modern technology and platforms such as SoundCloud and Bandcamp, it's now easier than ever for independent artists to get their music out to the masses. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's easier to shoulder all of the responsibility that a label home would normally take on. So when we first realized that singer Tay Walker was competing for a shot at a label deal on VH1's Signed, we immediately understood where he was coming from. And who could blame him? With a chance to ink a deal with either Lenny S's Roc Nation, Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group or The-Dream's Radio Killa Records, an artist would have to be crazy to not try for it. Needless to say, the three labels quickly recognized Walker's talents and he walked away in last night's finale as a member of Maybach Music's roster.

Throughout his time on the show, Walker still found time to release music on his own. Not long before learning whether or not he'd be inking a label deal, he dropped "Wanna Be," a banger that's dripping in swag from beginning to end. While fans of his more recent work such as "Runaway," "Bomb Bomb" and "A Crazy Thing Called Love" may be used to the kinder, gentler seductive Tay that we've all come to know and love through his lyrics, here he proves that he also has the bravado to make him right at home amongst his new rapping labelmates. The song is inspired by that moment "when you walk in the spot feeling like that n***a and your [sic] surrounded by wannabes," he explains on his SoundCloud page. "Wanna Be" is perfect for pre-gaming before a night out with your friends, especially if you're in need of an additional boost of confidence to make it a night to remember.

While it is yet to be seen what is next from this Inglewood, California native, one thing is for certain: with his level of determination and talent, Tay Walker's time in the spotlight has finally arrived. And we are more than happy to sit back and enjoy the ride. Take this swaggerific tune for a spin and see if it doesn't have you feeling yourself in a moment's time.
