Is This New McDonald's Ad Tired? Or Whimsical?

Grown Man R&B lives! Oh wait, this isn't a new Avant video? It's a Black man singing about McNuggets? Ugh. It's the '80s all over again, only this time "Calvin" isn't visiting Burger King on his lunch break. Man, this is corny! At least he's not singing in Auto-Tune.

John Legend is The Latest Victim of Yuletide Nutmeg Psychosis

Ahh...the holiday season. Can't you feel that crispness in the air? Unless you're in Southern California and looking for shade, that is. John Legend is set to guest on the upcoming A Colbert Christmas special, all decked out as a park ranger (or more like an adult film protagonist) where he seemed especially concerned with the inclusion of eggnog in Steven Colbert's holiday drink. While we would be more concerned with the amount of overproof Jamaican rum in ours, John goes on to explain that R&B stands for "roots and berries." Hunh? He also lip-syncs a pretty terrible song about nutmeg being indispensable to good egg nog. No, we're not Scrooges killing the holiday cheer, but we can spot something pretty corny when we see it. Somewhere in the world this is hilarious, but we can't help but wonder if all that nutmeg fascination has turned John into a man fixated with a spice that can cause some gnarly hallucinations when inhaled. Check it out for yourself below and tune into A Colbert Christmas when it starts airing on Comedy Central on November 23rd.

What If Mos Def Were Elected President This November?

mosdefobama.jpgAmong many questions in life that need answering, "What if Mos Def were President of the United States?" is like number...let's say 4321. It's right before "If y ∝ ∫ab x2 dx, then should we stop waiting on a new D'Angelo album?" Still, it's a good question because he's got some great answers in this video. President Def would get rid of the Electoral College, start Malcolm X University and give us Universal Healthcare. More importantly, however, than any of this is that he would put a moratorium on phrases like in the club, droppin' it like it's hot, and, thankfully, shawty. Running on a platform of discontinuing usage of tired slang would likely result in a landslide victory. If he added swagger to that, he might even snag the battleground SoulBounce constituency. LL Has More 'Swagger' In His Deodorant Stick Than Jigga & T.I. Combined

"Swagger" is a word none of us will ever get tired of, and the geniuses at Old Spice realize this. That's why they have a new line called exactly that. Since "Swagger" is a word that has been appropriated by endless Hip Hop artists that never seem to run out of ideas, Old Spice needed to market their new product to the Hip Hop community. But they required someone that was not only "Hip Hop" but was also mature and oozes the same raw sex appeal as classic Old Spice. That's where Uncle L comes in, the perfect spokesperson for a product that is essential to enhancing your geriatric, hippity-hoppity pimp game. [via WH]

Presenting the Legendary Funk Puddin

A few weeks ago Anthony David and N'dambi rolled through DC for one of the slamminest (won't find that in the dictionary) concerts to hit the DMV in a hot minute. If you weren't there, then you missed one helluva show. With the tightest afro this side of the '70s and legs for days, N'dambi put it down and set the stage for Anthony David who brought his soulful Southern swagger to DC for another display of dopeness. But the real story of the night was the surprise appearance of Funk Puddin, the long forgotten troubadour of funk and soul. He took the stage when Anthony David took a short break and sang Rick James' "Mary Jane," causing the audience to erupt in both sheer delight and awe. He only sang one song then was gone in a haze of braid sheen and satin, but I was fortunate enough to capture the man, the myth, the legend on video. Catch a glimpse of his genius below.
