Yo ?uestlove, What Makes You the Best Drummer in the Universe? Is It the Shoes?
Sorry I had to get all Mars Blackmon on y'all, but watching this brief video of ?uestlove talking about his new Nike AF1 Air ?uesto sneakers brought it out. And as you'll see, the drummer from the Legendary Roots Crew is super amped about the first shoe from his new line of kicks that he is designing for the athletic shoe behemoth. With a limited edition of only 300 made and a price tag of $225, these colorful jawns are strictly for the sneakerheads.
If you're in Philly tonight, be sure to check out the launch event starting at 6 PM at Ubiq in Philadelphia (at the Walnut Street location) with a special appearance and performance by ?uestlove himself, who will also be ringing up purchases at the register. (Hilarious!) That's if you can get in the door, though. Heads have been lining up to buy these sneakers at Ubiq since Saturday. Like, whoa.
Nas Channels His Inner Cool Kid For Fashion Spread
In the event that you are tired of hearing about Nas' music, then this particular post is for you. Always one to surprise and amaze, Nasir Jones has upped and done an unintentionally comical spread in some interesting gear in the June/July issue of Complex. Nas can be seen in day-glo skinny jeans, the latest hot kicks and other trendy hipster swag in the "Colorful Language" fashion feature. The photos themselves are a beautiful mess, but this video ups the ante on the funny. The clip shows not-so-nasty Nas in various poses with his song "Hip Hop Is Dead" serving as the soundtrack. Oh, the irony.
LL Cool J Joins the Softer Side of Sears
After launching his bedazzled clothing line Todd Smith a few months ago at Macy's, LL Cool J has decided to partner up with another, rather unlikely store in the mall for a new collection: Sears. Yes, yes, y'all Cool James has teamed up with the struggling retailer for the LL Cool J for Sears line, which will feature casualwear for juniors, young men, girls and boys. Clothes in the collection will range in price from $22 to $50, which is considered pricey for Sears but a relative bargain compared to other celeb lines. The brand launches this fall and they are currently fine tuning the line because according to L his "main concern with juniors is to make sure the fit is right. The fabrics have to feel nice on a woman's body, but sizing and fit are very important." Given the choice of model in the promo photos for the line, one has to wonder exactly who the line is going to fit. The girls from around the way have a little bit more junk in the trunk.

Lenny Kravitz to Rock Lots of Gucci on European Tour
Lenny Kravitz is a fashion icon, so it's no wonder that he will be styled by Gucci's Frida Giannini for his upcoming European tour. According to Vogue UK, Kravitz will debut 20 looks, including the requisite tight rocker denims with large belt buckles, fitted jackets and accessories that were created with his input. Check out some of our favorite Lenny looks below. [VOGUE / WWD]
CRS is a T-Shirt, If Not an Album
Despite a hint or two dropped by Lupe Fiasco and a CRS "mixtape" (chock full of tracks we already own), it began to look like Lulu, Kanye and McThefty were playing with our emotions. The CRS album project is starting to feel like a distant, distant possibility. But fret not, children, here's a t-shirt to hold you over.
For extra kicks, the text attached to the photograph of the item appears after the bounce:
Fashion Bomb

Can a brother get in? Fashion-obsessed Kanye West, who once deemed these entertaining Balenciaga "Closed Front Cage Sandals With Ankle Pads" as "the illest", was denied entry to a recent Balenciaga show. The Balenciaga folks say Kanye never made the request. Kanye has suspicions that point to, well, his ego: "We didn't get a ticket for Balenciaga. I understand it, I get a lot of attention and, you know, sometimes the designers don't want anything taking the focus off the show." Right, I couldn't imagine how all the other celebrities usually in attendance at fashion shows would be able to concentrate with Kanye in the house. He was, however, admitted into the Viktor & Rowf show. [NYT]
Now You Can Look Like Someone That Picks His Nose On Camera And Doesn't Vote!
Lupe Fiasco, with the help of Dr. Romanelli, is releasing his line of paink, reversible jackets inspired by The Cool. Word! I told myself a little while ago that I was going to leave Lulu alone, but then I saw this. But, hey, if that's what you're into... [Wooohah]
Aretha Franklin Commits A Diva Don't
This first rule in the Diva Handbook is to never let the people see you in the same thing twice. But Aretha Franklin clearly said bump all that when she decided to wear this dress on stage at last night's Grammy Awards after wearing it to the Kennedy Center Honors gala in December. I'm all for recycling, but this is ridiculous. Whoever is styling Aretha Franklin (Sara Lee, perhaps?) needs to rethink their vocation.
Stay Classy, Nas!
Not sure if anyone out there knows this, but, the Grammys were last night! A pretty underwhelming event propping up everyone we got sick of last year, minus one or two highlights. Brief op-eds forthcoming. But before we get into all that, we'd be remiss not to acknowledge the following:

I'm starting to think the name of this album might be a bad idea.
Erykah Badu & Janet Jackson: Posed, Pretty and Polished
Erykah Badu and Janet Jackson, who both have albums dropping the 26th of this month, are currently featured in Giant and Parade, respectively. In a preview of her first interview with Giant, Badu offers some insight into her romances with Andre 3000 and Common, and how everyone thought she weirded Common out on the crochet pants and things. (Can you blame us, though?) Janet's Parade feature is almost exclusively about her upbringing and her faith, and how said faith caused her to reel in her excitement at a Prince show she attended with her mother at the age of 16. Very lukewarm, but sweet tidbits nonetheless. The humanity and humility of the piece go hand-in-hand with these smiling, classy shots of her.
Props to Concrete Loop and That Grape Juice for the compass!
Toni Braxton Is M'm! M'm! Good! For A Purpose
Braxton was diagnosed with heart disease after the birth of her second son while she was on Broadway starring in Aida. With her itty bitty body, she was the picture of health on the outside but inside was a different matter. She has since made a complete recovery and she is now raising awareness about this movement toward healthier hearts.
Video: Pharrell Officially Premieres N*E*R*D's 'Everyone Nose' in Louis Vuitton Ad
The Blason Fine Jewelry collection was created in part by Pharrell Williams under direction from Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. I feel so poor watching this video that I couldn't even afford to buy enough vowels for the previous sentence. And maybe I'm not supposed to, since regular people clearly aren't the target demographic here. How many harcore hipsters, skaters and N*E*R*D fans are going to rush out to buy this stuff? Exactly. Also, I don't think "Everyone Nose" could be edited enough to truly suit the vibe of the imagery.
