We'd Like to Thank the Academy...[Yes We Did!]

seemed to fitI know there were many of you looking forward to my complete dismantling of the Internets if SoulBounce didn't win any Black Weblog Awards. Well I'm sorry to inform you that we rightfully won for Best Music Blog (popular and judges' vote) and Best Blog Design (judges' vote). Chea, boyee! If you're wondering why SoulBounce even gives a damn about a BWA, that's what I'm here to tell you.

Morning Soul: All For You

  • Have you voted for SoulBounce in the 2008 Black Weblog Awards yet? [BWA]
  • Aretha Franklin wore her Easter's finest to the US Open. [C+D]
  • At an RIAA-sponsored party during the DNC, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx performed "Gold Digger" in Barack Obama's honor. I can think of so many other songs that would've been more appropriate. [BB]
  • You have until Sunday, August 31st to vote for SoulBounce in the 2008 Black Weblog Awards for Best Blog Design and Best Music Blog. [BWA]
  • More ugly details have surfaced about Suge Knight attacking his girlfriend. [SSU]
  • What's this we hear about Mos Def getting gully with a photographer? [RWS]
  • Only Michael Jackson can rock a sports coat and pajama bottoms in public. Then again, no he can't. [YBF]
  • Can SoulBounce pull off a victory in the 2008 Black Weblog Awards? YES WE CAN! (With your votes, of course.) [BWA]

After You Vote For Us, Then Who Else Do You Vote For?

bwa-wallpaper_800x600.jpgMuch thanks to all of you who voted for SoulBounce during the nomination phase of the 2008 Black Weblog Awards. And now that we are in the finals for Best Music Blog and Best Blog Design, we hope that you'll vote for us so we can avoid nOva kirking out. But seriously, we kid. We do hope that you vote for us because we really do believe that there is no competition when it comes to bringing you the best that soul music, in all of its incarnations, has to offer.

Glancing at the BWA ballot, however, reveals 29 categories with 3 choices each. That's almost 90 blogs to choose from! Really, it's only 84 choices after you vote for us *wink* but that's still a bit overwhelming. So before all of you go kirking out over who to choose, here are some recommendations provided by our staff of some of our favorites:

Ready, Set, Vote For SoulBounce at the Black Weblog Awards!

bwa-wallpaper_800x600.jpg From the entire staff at SoulBounce, we would like like to thank everyone who nominated us for the 2008 Black Weblog Awards. We are pleased to announce that thanks to your votes we are finalists in two categories: Best Blog Design and Best Music Blog! We are so honored that our readers nominated us in these categories, but now is when we really need your support.

We're up against some stiff comp in the Best Blog Design category, but like our fabulous designer Huny stated on Twitter last night, "its like Kanye vs 50, we can take down CL & YBF"! Our sentiments exactly. As far as the Best Music Blog category is concerned, we don't mean to brag and don't mean to boast, but frankly it's not a competition. If we don't take this accolade home, then I think we're all going to flip our wigs Kanye style. It won't be a pretty picture.

Please cast your vote for SoulBounce at the 2008 Black Weblog Awards right here. The process is super simple, but in order for your ballot to be valid you have to vote in all 30 categories. For those unfamiliar with all of the blogs that are finalists, links to each are provided for your convenience. But all that minutia aside, it all boils down to this:

Admit It: You Love Us When We're Angry

bwa-wallpaper_800x600.jpgFor those of you who did not listen to the Friday Favecast that featured all of your favorite SoulBounce editors, one of the facts revealed about us is that we hold artists accountable for their product. On a good day, this equivocates with us praising an artist for taking the time to not feed us overhyped, oversexed, off-key-sounding drivel. On a bad day, it equivocates with being subjected to songs neither of us would care to listen to.

One of the great things about this website is that we are able to (a) write, (b) take our product seriously and (c) manage to keep it classy all at the same time. Okay, most of the time, unexpected Maxwell sightings notwithstanding. There is something to be said for utilizing innuendo. So often we are all subjected to those who feel they have the right to act up simply because the internet affords a cloak of secrecy. But as you tell from our staff page, we put our money where our gleaming, pearly white teeth are. We are not afraid to take criticism from anyone, including ourselves.

In honor of the Black Weblog Awards nomination season, which ends IN TWO DAYS, let's take a trip down memory lane with a special focus on our special ability to keep it really real.
