#94: Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’

Something like this could only happen in the 80's. A song about things "lurking in the dark" and cold, evil breath on your neck. Sexy! "Thriller" is partly responsible for contributing to our perception of Michael Jackson's freakish nature, and the Vincent Price voice-over along with the visuals from the mini-film had kids across the globe shook. He would eventually be sued, but for totally different (or similar?) reasons.

Why does this classic rank so low on our list? Because Michael Jackson, frankly, has better songs. "Thriller" is nothing without a Halloween party and the accompanying video. Interestingly, it only hit #4 in the U.S.

  1. That's Ola after all that time?hmmm times a changing!I agree, Thriller was an OK song for the Halloween crowd.I actually thing "The Lady Of My Life" and "PYT" are standouts more than Thriller. This still my song though, I just love when he Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.Go ahead MJ, I'm not mad!

  2. I think this is one of the best songs. It's second to "Billie Jean." "PYT" and "The Lady of My Life" r just more accessible.

  3. Sharonda took the words out of my mouth. Those two songs are also my faves from Thriller. If I hadn't been blaspheming and remembered Michael on my list, Rock With You and MAYBE PYT are my two fave MJ joints. It's so hard with artists like him to choose one or two faves.
Thriller is still a classic though and definitely belonged on the list. I love it more for the video though, which was groundbreaking.

  4. Love that MJ, forever and always!

  5. Great Pick-Soul Bounce! This was a great song.
