George Clinton Goes Old School on 'Radio Friendly'

george-clinton.jpgWe wanted the funk, and we got it! George Clinton is putting together a funky pile of goodies on his latest album Radio Friendly to be released September 3 via Shanachie Records. George will be singing updated versions of romantic songs about courtship (something we've been missing), which includes such classic as Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar" and Johnny Ace's "Pledging My Love." If you can recall, George began singing doo-wop ("I Wanna Testify") with The Parliaments. Now he's updating the sound with the help of Sly Stone, Kim Burrell, The RZA, Carlos Santana, El Debarge, Shavo from System of a Down, Gary Shider, and Belita Woods. WOW! We would give our left eye to see this played out on a stage (with our remaining right eye of course). Just his collaborations with gospel singer Kim Burrell and the funky maestro Sly Stone warrant our $9.99. [ST]
