When you put the words "musical" and "genius" together there are a few artists who should immediately come to mind: Quincy Jones, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Prince. However, there is another artist who is sometimes overlooked but just as worthy of inclusion into this pantheon of greatness: Raphael Saadiq. He is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, businessman and visionary who has touched every musical genre from R&B, to soul, to pop, to hip hop, to neo-soul with nothing less than stellar results.

As a member of the groups Tony! Toni! Toné! and Lucy Pearl, Raphael has created a cavalcade of iconic hits, but where he really tends to shine is on his solo material. Nowhere is this better heard than on his latest album, The Way I See It. This disc is a throwback to the Motown sound, and he is one of the few artists to get it right. And boy does he get it right on The Way I See It, which is his best work to date.
