The Roots ‘Love’ The Kids & Their Family

Recently, I have spent countless hours seemingly held hostage by children's programming. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my kid, but once you're on your third hour of Go Diego Go!, you might find yourself going a little batty. Some time ago, we hipped you readers to Dino 5, a Hip Hop crew of prehistoric dinosaurs who love to bust a rhyme fronted by producer Prince Paul. Now, Yo Gabba Gabba!, a show that can best be thought of as Hip Hop meets robots fronted by a dude who is the reincarnation of "James Evans, Jr.", has recently released an album featuring Biz Markie and The Roots. While Biz is a regular on the show and shows kids how to beatbox with "Biz's Beat of the Day," The Roots have only just joined the team and brought with them their song "Lovely, Love My Family."  It's a totally cute song, but not what we've come to expect of typical Roots crew fare. It's much different than their typical sound, especially because the song is sung by Captain Kirk. You can check it out for yourself below.

  1. I beg to differ. The host of Yo Gabba Gabba reminds me more of Raj from 'What's Happening.'

  2. I like the song...very cute....makes me smile...I need to have that on my iPod.

  3. Yo... If I were a 4 yr old I'd be AMPED!
I cannot see how this can be categorized as anything other than awesome.
Is it something I'd listen to? Not really. But you can't play Phrenology for the kiddies.
    And listen to the lyrics!
The Roots is for the chirrens!!!

  4. Me-thinks they enjoyed themselves a bit much. Quest was really getting it in. It's funny how a group like the Roots gives you a license to actually enjoy something like this. If Justin Timberlake did it, you'd be like, "that was whack! I knew he was still chock full o' Disney sh*t!

  5. For some reason I can't get enough of that TUBA!!! Lol.
