Who Is Hip Hop's Best Singer?

hip-hop-singers.jpgWhen it comes to singing hooks on a Hip Hop track, there is a certain skill required that doesn't always follow the same rules as singing a song that lasts three to four minutes. Given that the singer is not the person with the most time on the track, you have to be able to burn from the moment the hook is laid over the melody. Keeping this in mind, glancing over the list of "Top 10 Hip-Hop Singers" which places Nate Dogg squarely at number one with credits given to Lauryn Hill and Cee-Lo, I am going to simply chalk this list's omissions up to the authors' preference. After all, T-Pain (side-eye activated) is at number three after Pharrell and Andre 3000. Thank goodness that TJ Swann is mentioned at all since quite a few music consumers have probably never heard of his name. Noticably absent are Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige (really?) and K-Ci & JoJo who really killed it on hot tracks by Gang Starr ,Tupac, and Father MC who were both featured on tracks by him. Do we also have time to mention the much maligned R Kelly, Faith, and Crystal Johnson? Check out the list here and let us know whether you agree or disagree with the choices and if anyone else is noticeably absent from this list of Hip Hop's great hooksters.
