Bounce-Worthy: BSTC

Chicago is the home to many things – deep dish pizza, Garrett popcorn and President Barack Obama to name a few. But one of the Windy City's most famous homegrown exports is a style of music that gained popularity in the '80s and is still going strong to this day: House. The genre has grown, crossed over, and flipped the script since it originated after Disco "died" and now a Chicago-based group of musicians performing under the name BSTC pays homage to it in their music, which is a diverse palette of sounds. Where else can you find House, Acid Jazz, R&B, Soul and Jazz on one album? You can find it on BSTC's debut, Music for a Saturday Evening, which takes the listener on a sonic trip through Black music.

BSTC is short for BlackStone Theater Collective and the group is the brainchild of producer Andy C. who enlisted the talents of Tunji, Keanna Johnson and Zzaje on this project. I've been grooving to BSTC since I discovered them shortly after their album dropped last November, and I've selfishly kept them to myself like the only child that I am, but it's time for me to share the musical wealth. It's ironic that the two songs below that I chose to feature for BSTC are entitled "Love It" and "Get It" because the former explains how I feel about Music for a Saturday Evening and the latter let's you know precisely what you need to do.
