Ashanti Finds A ‘Home’ On Broadway

See what happens when we go on hiatus? Another pop star secures a spot in a Broadway play. The latest, of course, is Ashanti, who has nabbed the role of Dorothy in the lastest incarnation of The Wiz, which will bow in the fall. Recently, the show's producers held a press junket for the show where the former Ms. Murder, Inc. takes on the play's showstopper, "Home." Going in, I didn't know what to expect because, let's face it, she's definitely not her, or her. But, truthfully, she more than held her own. Hopefully, she'll be able to keep this up over the long haul. And, no, the fact that the clip freezes right around the 4:07 mark as Ashanti speaks does not mean that she will do the same in front of a Broadway audience. Cut that out.

  2. Ya'll play too much, Wiz producers. It was betta than expected and she's smart enough to compensate in her approach and arrangement to handle the rough spots in the song that she just can't nail (if this is the best she can give, I doubt she can pull off a song at the top of her range 8 shows a week), but she.ain't. no. Dorothy. I'm just saying...

  3. Anyone seen the version Jazmine Sullivan did? Wipes the floor with Ashanti. And she was 11 at the time. Check it if you haven't already.
