This is a live performance given by Raphael Saadiq that's featured on Live From The Artist's Den, a DVD that will be released on July 21st. It's of him singing "Big Easy" off of last year's fantastic The Way I See It. But what's most striking is his discussion of the inspiration for the song, New Orleans. Since we're already in hurricane season, it feels particularly poignant but the ongoing recovery of that entire region is worth reflection. Sure, Saadiq's question about "what's going on" is specific to the aftermath of Katrina. However, some of its sentiments certainly are certainly applicable to current events that are far away for some of us yet way too close for far too many. [H/T: OKP]
