Kooley High's New Video Is Old School Cool

What do you get when you put six former North Carolina State University students together who share a love of hip hop and R&B and are heavily influenced by A Tribe Called Quest, Common, Lauryn Hill and Mary J. Blige? You get Kooley High, of course, and this crew could just be the next big thing to come out of Raleigh, North Carolina (see: Little Brother). The group, made up of three MCs (Charlie Smarts, Tab-One, and Rapsody), two producers (Foolery and The Sinopsis), and a deejay (DJ Ill Digitz), first met on campus and started an organization for the love of hip hop called H2O. From there, they got together and got serious, graduating to what is now their first release, The Summer Sessions EP, recruiting producers like 9th Wonder and DeLa to help define their sound. Their latest video from the project, the smoothed-out, melodic "Kooley Is High" was released this past week, and directed by Napoleon Wright II of Becauseus.org. The result is a reverential ode to the old school. Keep your eye on this crew, for sure. As you can tell, we here at SBHQ are already "high" on them. Enjoy.
