Smokey 'Tears' It Up With The Roots On Late Night

Here's what I love about Motown: the instrumentation. Over the years, it didn't matter who was singing what when, the real stars of the Motown movement were the Funk Brothers, the band of brothers that supplied the soundtrack to just about every mega hit produced at Hitsville, USA. The way they played, and with the way each song was structured, the instruments almost always stole the show. Seeing Smokey Robinson perform last night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon brought that all back for me, as he sang his classic hit "Tears of A Clown" with The Roots. The clip is below, and sure Smokey sounds great, but again, it's the instruments that make the performance all that it can be, which is pretty damn hot.
