Jody Watley’s Much Needed ‘Makeover’ Coming Soon

I don't know about you, but ever since watching the Unsung episode featuring Shalimar, I have been jonesing for some Jody Watley. All you young'uns reading this may be just as surprised to learn just how large Jody's star shone when she went solo just as much as Bobby Brown really being the one of the biggest Pop stars as the '80s drew to a close. Luckily, Jody never really disappeared but went where true R&B legends with talent go when we Americans no longer have interest in them: Europe. She went on to work with some great and talented producers across the pond. And now that her newest album The Makeover is set to be released October 20th, we ungrateful Americans get to hear what we've missed out on, namely some stunning soulful electronica and reworks of classics such as Madonna's "Borderline," Bob Marley and The Wailers' "Waiting In Vain," and Diana Ross' "Love Hangover." Excited yet? Peep the tracklisting and promo video after the bounce.

  1. She better KILL Rihanna wit that bob. The original! trendsetter of pop.

  2. The tracklisting is slightly different drom the itunes version that was originally released. Waiting in Vain is absolute FIRE.

  3. I have the domestic version of this she did back in '06, I plan to cop this as well. JW is truly a force to be reckoned with.-QH

  4. I wanted to personally say thank you SoulBounce for helping to make people aware of my new music, I really appreciate your support! More to come 🙂

  5. I'm not a young'un and I have been a fan for decades...yes, decades! LOL She was and STILL Is an original..and if you are unfamiliar with her work, you should check out some of her videos on youtube. You will see that she was doing everything you see some of today's artists 'attempt' to do long before they were on the scene. The voice, the grace, the dance, the style! Props to one of the most underratted TRUE talents out there. Oh yeah, if she comes to your town, check out her show, too. You won't be disappointed. TRUST!

  6. After listening to Jody's cover of "Borderline" you will not want to listen to Madonna's version ever again.
This is classy music music at its best. From the funky rendition of Chic's "I want your love" to the amazing original tracks such as "Beautiful Life" & "Bed of Roses" you will not be disappointed.
The 2009 re-issue contains 2 new covers and my favourite is her take on Erasure's "A Little Respect". A gem!

  7. I'm going to sit down long enough to catch my breath to write a special heartfelt thank you to you, Ms. Watley, for blessing our beloved website with your presence.
That being said, from what I've heard, I CANNOT wait for this project to be released. I'll just make sure to not twirl around my living room with a petticoat on impersonating you like it's 1988 LOL
    Thanks again!

  8. I have the 2006 version and i have the new version
Both exceptionally honest and mature works...
She never received the props she deserved.
America missed the last 5 great albums and never understood her genuine approach to music and her sense of innovation!
She has come long way and sounds better than ever before and much better than most of todays "idols"!
Listening to the new makeover (international version) is a PRIVILEGE!
She managed to make originals sound fresh and in most cases better...
Her Bob Marley cover is painfully beautiful and Madonna's Borderline finally gets the voice it always needed!
Diana's Hangover gets a sophisticated but genuine update and sounds as if Jody wasn't older than 20!
Her voice is pure, beautiful and her vocal tone is undeniably unique!
No overhauling, no screaming ,no hype...just beautiful music!
Just in Case you haven't seen her perform...Go and see it!
You wont ever forget the Jody experience!
I love me some Jody since her solo debut!
Being her fan is a roller coaster ride of colors, emotions and masterpieces, moods and artistic concepts...
Thanks for giving her the room she deserves

  9. Ms Watley is true to herself and to her music ..Her rendition of Bob Marley's "Waiting in vain" and Madonna's "Borderline" are so touching .. This album is "Simply Beautiful"...

  10. I'm so proud of Jody Watley for her growth as an artist. She hasn't allowed anyone to NOT stop her art.
The Unsung series show on Shalamar was an eye opener. I honestly had no clue of the problems in the group but I always loved her solo work.
Thank goodness she has so many options with her career.
I would love to see her also venture out and do some more modeling. Remember back in the day when she was on that cat walk?!
