Quiet Bounce: Before There Was 'Grown & Sexy' There Was Boyz II Men

Boyz II Men were four, clean-cut fellas from Philly whose '90s-era R&B ballads set the mood for wholesome, Cliff & Claire Huxtable-type romance. In 1992, while basking in the PG-13 glow of Cooleyhighharmony, they came out of left field with "Uhh Ahh (The Sequel)" and earned a spot on many "Deluxe Get the Drawz" mixtape CDs. The walking bass line and immaculate harmonies executed the classic BIIM formula: Nate was the gatekeeper with his subtle baritone, Shawn was the tour guide whose tenor evoked passion and finesse, Wanya's pulsating runs unleashed the zenith of the song while Michael's bass-laden "slow rhyme" didn't have to make sense to be sexy. This is, and always will be, my all-time favorite ballad from my all-time favorite singing group. Light a candle, relax and let this "pre-grown & sexy" jam remind you that squeaky-clean crooners can get dirty.
