Bomani Armah To Unleash A 'New Classic' At SXSW

Bomani Armah's name got some major hyping a few years back when BET released an animated video to his track "Read A Book," which was a satirical mantra dissing the popular trend of being a dummy. While the message of the song was clear for some, the song did not showcase the profound lyrical skill and delivery Armah had under wraps. Simply put, Bomani Armah is like that.

Bomani released Radio Friendly in 2008 to prove his skill and the result was one of the dopest drops of '08. Radio Friendly is a tightly produced collection of tracks containing odes to his hometown of DC on cuts like "Where I'm From" featuring ML & Hip-Hop viruoso Christylez and the Go-Go laced "Ain't A Game" to upbeat swag tracks like "Chase the Sun" featuring the Hueman Prophets and Bilal Salaam. We highly recommend you cop this ASAP if you don't already own it, because he is selling the entire disc as a download today on his Bandcamp page for just $1.

Taking
a look at his performance calendar as of late, we see that Armah is
finally getting the attention he deserves. While he is a regularly
scheduled source of entertainment in the Washington, D.C. area--performing in many events throughout the Nation's Capital--it looks like
he has SXSW on lock as one of the featured performers this week in Austin, TX. The new media and music festival
is major--showcasing the convergence of original music, independent
films, and emerging technologies. Tomorrow, March 16th, Bomani will be
performing with DJ D'Salaam at the historic Victory Grill with King Solo, Dred Skott and southern hip-hop legends 8Ball & MJG

On Saturday, March 20th, Armah will be performing with the Hip-Hop band The 5 one at Opal Divine Freehouse with Paul Benjaman Band, Moreland & Arbuckle, John Forté, Dexter Freebish and T Bird and the Breaks.  You can come to either of these shows to pick up one of only 200 limited edition copies of Bomani Armah's New Classic mixtape mixed by DC's DJ RBI. The entire mixtape, which he gave us a sample of in January, will be available to download on March 16th at www.NotARapper.com for free. For those like me who can't make it to the SXSW conference this year, this is definitely a treat worth snatching up.
