Jill Scott Says ‘Hear My Call’ And We Listen

Jill Scott has always managed to capture in song what many of us want to say but can't find the words. We feel her because she's a reflection of us every time she sings of liking, lusting, loving, losing. "Hear My Call" is the latest in a line of songs from Jill that sounds as if it could be from our diaries, personal blogs or prayers. She debuted this song on the 41st NAACP Image Awards (performance video after the bounce) a few weeks ago, and although I heard the song then, I didn't really listen until yesterday and it brought tears to my eyes. Jill is broken and vulnerable, pleading to God for a healing after love has left her raw. Been there, done that and now I have this song to add to the soundtrack of my life. This isn't the first single from The Light of the Sun, but it will be included on the new collection. If you're feeling this as much as I am, then you can download it from the NAACP website with all proceeds going directly the NAACP for Haiti Fund. [H/T: PBB]

  1. Introspective song. Had to listen to it twice for it to really hit home.

  2. All I want to know is who is this new album being released by? Jill has supposedly left Hidden Beach last year and they are now suing the hell out of her.

  3. i would i wasnt the only 1 feeling this... i was looking up info about her new album + i stumbled onto the youtube clip 2 days ago... + i thought "my love" was something serious... sorrow, driven near the end of your rope of faith in love, pleading that this pain be swept away somehow... yeah, im a brotha + yeah, i teared up while watching her face twist in unbearable hurt as she sobs "please..." with what seems like her last bit of breath + hope. her vulnerability + ability to express this bitter honest side of emotion makes her so strong in my eyes... + thats only 1 of the numerous reasons why i love jilly from philly.

  5. This song is a CHILLING metaphor for the disaster in Haiti. If she's feeling that kind of turmoil in her personal life she certainly presented it in a graceful manner. Tragic and beautiful at the same time.

  17. This is a beautiful song. It's the prayer for many hurting people who listens to it. There's a deep message in the words to the song and those who listen, will be blessed if you allow God to heal your broken heart.
