Cee-Lo Has 'Georgia' On His Mind

Next to Phonte, my favorite rapper-turned-singer is Cee-Lo Green. Every time that man opens his mouth I feel like I'm catching the holy ghost in a Southern Baptist church in the middle of summer with only a funeral home fan to keep me cool. His voice has so much power and texture, reminding me of a time when the majority of male singers sounded like men and not heteroquestionable or robots or heteroquestionable robots. Cee-Lo has kept busy since releasing his last album, Cee-Lo Green... Is the Soul Machine, in 2004 as one half of always outrageously-outfitted Gnarls Barkley, singing with the likes of Estelle and Jack Splash, producing for the Pussycat Dolls, and most recently reuniting with Goodie Mob. He brings something new and fresh to each project, so it's no surprise that his new single, the first from his upcoming album The Lady Killer, is unlike anything that we've previously heard from Mr. Green. "Georgia" is his love letter to his home state with orchestration as epic as Cee-Lo's voice. This sounds like something that Phil Spector would have produced in the '60s without sounding dated. After hearing this, I'm excited to hear what else Cee-Lo pulls out of his musical bag of tricks on The Lady Killer
