'It's A Shame' If You Don't Love This Raphael Saadiq Remake

I have a confession to make: I have developed a serious love jones for Raphael Saadiq. I've always loved his music but a switch got flipped when I saw him in concert for the first time a couple years ago to promote his last album,
The Way I See It, and the fire has stayed lit with each subsequent live show of his that I've caught. This brotha could sing the phone book listings to me as long as he did it in a wifebeater while playing the bass. Mm mm mm. Now that that's out of the way, I am so happy to hear some new music from his corner thanks to this collaboration with Levi's for their Pioneer Sessions where contemporary artists remake classic songs. Previously we've heard Nas remake Slick Rick's "Hey Young World" for the series, and now Raphael takes The Spinners' "It's A Shame" for a spin. He puts a fresh coat of paint onto the Stevie Wonder, Syreeta Wright and Lee Garrett penned track originally sung by G.C Cameron on lead. Saadiq even taps into his upper register with impressive results.
