Les Nubians Are Starting A 'Revolution'

Les Nubians are arguably the most well-known French-speaking soul duo of all time. It's easy for me to declare that since I became an instant fan in 1998 after the release of their hit "Makeda" from their debut album, Princesses Nubiennes. In fact, I bought two copies. With songs mostly sung in French, Les Nubians broke out onto the scene with unbridled abandon, drawing us into their sound that is, at times, both soothingly soulful and artfully eclectic, often fusing different sounds in the course of one song. I loved all of the songs on their debut, with special love for "Makeda" despite my limited understanding at first of what they were singing. My eight years of studying French did not help me with the translation, only later understanding the affirming lyrics that are both uplifting and poetic. After releasing two albums between 2003 and 2005 that did not reach the popularity that their debut acheived, Les Nubians are back with a new release entitled Nu Revolution, which will be available for purchase until December 2010 on their website. After December, an extended CD version will be sold, with no release date issued yet. Check out this new track, "Liberté," from the collection, and share your comments below.
