Email from Minneapolis emcee M.anifest in my inbox is always welcome, especially when it involves a remix of track from one of my favorite mixtapes from last year set to one of my favorite beats. His The Birds & The Beats mixtape stayed on rotation for quite some time and Ghanian producer DJ Juls' take on "Golly Gosh" is splendid. I know that we all have the habit of remaining a bit myopic when it comes to hip hop, especially given that we reside in the country where it originated, but that doesn't mean that we should all collectively remain that way. Speaking of this, M.anifest is a part of the "We Rock Long Distance" project which seeks to bridge gaps between generations through hip hop. His own journey to his homeland of Ghana and creating music with his ethnomusicologist grandfather, Professor J.H. Nketia, is after the bounce. Thanks, M.anifest, for continuing to push hip hop's boundaries further.
