Carlitta Durand is a chameleon. She easily slips between soul, hip hop and electronica, and now we get to hear her flex her jazz chops on the song "Rather Sleep." She posted a link on Twitter to the free download of the track on her Bandcamp page, and I downloaded the song without question and without even listening to it first. I trust Carlitta like that, and my blind faith paid off once I took a listen to the recording. "Rather Sleep" is simply a sheer delight. Durand and her band sound marvelous, and I pray that this is but one jazz song of many that she plans on releasing. [Photo: Kali Rogers]
