Mariah Carey Breaks Out The High Notes For ‘Santa’

Fun, upbeat and pure pop are terms that aptly describe Mariah Carey's first single, "Oh Santa," from her upcoming Christmas album, Merry Christmas II You. Mimi has returned to the formula that worked for her early in her career--cutesy, girlish melodies, sweeter-than-pie lyrics and high-pitched notes at the end of the song. Does it work? Well, of course, Scrooge! It's a Christmas song. Will you be rocking this before Christmas? Maybe so, to get you in the mood to deck the halls. But it's more apt to provide the happy, happy, joy, joy soundtrack to kids opening presents under the tree on Christmas morning. If you're like me and need a head-start on getting the holiday playlist together, then plan to add this to your collection when Merry Christmas II You is released on November 2nd. Make sure that playlist also includes TLC's "Sleigh Ride," Boyz II Men's "Let it Snow," The Temptations' "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and you should be straight.
