V.Rich Is Feeling All 'Brand New'

I had the pleasure of seeing V. Rich live for the first time last year when he opened for Goapele in Washington, DC. After listening to this new single, "Brand New," which is a bit different from the plush instrumental nature of the songs I enjoyed hearing him perform last year, I look forward to seeing how he readies this song for inclusion in his upcoming stage shows. It shouldn't be too hard I'm guessing, because V. Rich, a gifted musician, also has a vocally impeccable sound and range. Inspired by The Stylistics' classic "You Make
Me Feel Brand New," Rich drops this first single from his
upcoming mixtape, Before the Addiction, scheduled for release
later this month. Produced by Bosston, the track melds the new sound of
urban pop with melodic classic soul as V. Rich vocally transitions in and
out of the falsetto range that was trademark of the Stylistics' song, which was released in 1972. While I'm a bigger fan of real instrumentation in songs versus synthed beats, the homage to classic soul wins me over every time. Get your listen on until the mixtape arrives in a few weeks and let us know what you think.
