Bounce-Worthy: The Endangered

As those of us willing to dig a little deeper know, there is a wealth of underground talent out there just waiting to be discovered. The problem for the modern-day music fan is sorting the good from the not so good, which can be a full-time occupation in itself given the sheer number of acts vying for your attention. Often artists will come up with gimmicks or push the boundaries a little too far in order to garner attention. Thankfully some artists rely on the tried and tested method of simply creating good quality music. Step up LA-based band The Endangered who describe their sound as a blend of rock, vintage soul, R&B, hip-hop and jazz. Not so sure about the "rock" but the rest definitely apply and lead singer Maiya Sykes posesses a robust soul voice that would blow most of the current soul/R&B-lite "divas out of the water. The band is rounded out by Nick Block on guitars, Frank Abraham on bass and Gene Coye on drums. Listen to the touching "Calling On You" below then go grab the rest of their free, self-titled EP over at their Bandcamp site. Also keep an eye out for a full-length album early next year.
