I'm still in a state of disbelief that Teena Marie is gone. It's been over a week now and her loss remains a fresh wound. I've channeled my despair into listening to her extensive catalog and any of the numerous mixes of her music that have popped up online in the wake of her passing. Now I have this lovely re-imagining of one of her biggest hits from Mark de Clive-Lowe and Sy Smith on "Teena (Lovergirl Syberized)" to add into heavy rotation. Day's after Marie passed away, Sy took a track that MdCL sent her and was inspired to create a tribute to the Ivory Queen of Soul but in her own funkdafied way. She more than succeeded with her rearrangement of the lyrics to "Lovergirl" laid on top of the downtempo bed that MdCL provided. This song makes me happy in the midst of my sorrow.
