CocknBullKid Shines In Her 'Misery'

Last week was quite a musically eventful one for me. On Wednesday, I got to see man-of-the-moment Jamie Woon who I advise, if he ever comes to a city near you, that you drop everything and get your hands on tickets by any means possible. This guy is incredible, and now I'm even more psyched--if that is possible--to get my hands on his upcoming Mirrorwriting album. Then on Friday, I got see the phenomenon that is Ms. Janelle Monáe. I knew this woman put on a crazy show, and I knew she had a fantastic voice to boot, but I was in no way prepared for the amazingly energetic performance she gave. This lady is the future. Of course, as well as the headline acts there were the obligatory supporting acts, and a young lady who goes by the name CocknBullKid had the unenviable task of opening to a crowd eager to get their fix of cyborg-soul. After a lukewarm reception when she hit the stage, she got into her zone and delivered a great, if somewhat protracted, set. The highlight was certainly her new single, "Hold On To Your Misery," a storming slice of pop-soul clearly inspired by Motown-era girl groups but with a modern spin. By the end of the song she had the audience eating from the palm of her very capable hands, and I'm certainly eager to hear what she has in store on her upcoming album. Check out the official video for the song below, complete with mini-CocknBullKids.
