Jill Scott Sheds Some 'Light' On Her Musical Influences

I don't know about y'all, but I am loving every minute of this Jill Scott blitz that we're currently experiencing. There's no telling how long it'll last, so I'm savoring every drop of Jill's sweet tea that I can get and she's quenching my thirst with her weekly "Light of the Sundays" series on Essence.com. Last week she took us behind the scenes of the "So In Love" video shoot with Anthony Hamilton and this week she chills in the studio recounting her youth and the role her mother played in shaping her musical tastes. Jill lovingly speaks of her mom while she remembers going to see Millie Jackson and The Temptations and being in smoky jazz clubs all before the age of 10. That was the beginning of Jill's musical education, and she had some great teachers growing up where and when she did.
