‘Soul Train’ Will Be Pulling Into The Smithsonian Soon

The Soul Train will be making a stop in the DC Metro area very soon. According to the Washington Post arts
, the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture recently acquired of
five pieces of memorabilia from the popular music and dance show. This represents an opportunity to
celebrate and preserve the culture of African-American music so that it can be shared with generations
to come. Soul Train ran for over three decades, giving soul, funk, R&B, and hip-hop artists a stage to sing (and
dance) on. The show also shaped African-American fashion sensibilities and dance styles, and gave black
weddings, parties, and family reunions across the country a tradition that still lives on today - the Soul
Train line. A discussion panel and dance party scheduled for June 30th will celebrate the occasion to kick off the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and
word on the street is that Questlove will be in the building to rock the party. There will be a strictly
funkdafied dress code -- afros and bell bottoms only, please.
