When I first heard six-man a cappella group Committed sing, I knew that they were some kinda special. The fact that they went on to win the second season of The Sing-Off was further proof of their greatness, and now Maurice Staple, Alain "Tommy" Gervais, Theron "Therry" Thomas, Robbie Pressley, Dennis "DJ" Baptiste, and Geston Pierre are officially on the map and currently making their way around it on tour. They recently brought their anointed harmonies to New York City's Highline Ballroom and lucky for us that cameras, phones, and other recording devices were on hand to capture portions of the show. One stand-out performance was their breathtaking rendition of Maxwell's "Pretty Wings." Y'all know that my love for Max is wider than Victoria Lake, but these six cats absolutely owned that man's song and I don't know if I want them to return it. The vocal flourishes that they added were simply amazing. Committed's first single, "Break Free," was a sweet pop gospel confection, but this is the kind of soul music that I long to hear from these guys. Please keep it coming.
