'Hear' (And See) Jill Scott's 'Call'

I'm not ashamed to admit that "Hear My Call," the powerful, pulsing heart of Jill Scott's The Light of the Sun, might have put a tear in my eye a time or two (though I'm more likely to say it's allergies). It's something about the song's rawness and vulnerability that takes you to that very place that Jill is talking about. For the video, which is available as a free download via iTunes through August 29th, Jill borrows from Janelle Monáe's "Cold War" treatment and gives us simple black background and a tight shot of her performing. This was really the only way the video should've been done, as the lyrics and emotion captured are its most important elements. Jill, who's currently on tour promoting Sun, got it totally right with this one. It's enough to get a brother all choked up. You guys watch the video, I'm going to grab a tissue (for my allergies, of course).
