There's Nothing But 'Blue Sky' Where Common Is

While I always love when one of my favorite artists collaborates with other producers and experiments with new sounds, I can honestly say that sometimes it's always good to come full circle. As a long time Common fan, I've loved him through all of his incarnations, when he tapped into his experimental side via Soulquarians and got back to his Chicago roots courtesy of Kanye West. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't get all giddy on the inside when he hit the studio again with his original producer extraordinaire, No I.D. What's old is new again when these two get together, as evidenced on their latest, "Blue Sky," taken from his upcoming album The Dreamer, The Believer, due out November 22nd. The duo breathes new life into the classic song, "Mr. Blue Sky," from Electric Light Orchestra, with a little help from singer Makeba. Even with his S.A.G. card in his wallet and his memoir, One Day It'll All Make Sense, on the shelves and bestsellers lists, my man Lonnie Lynn proves that he still has what it takes in the recording booth. Though a video for the song has yet to be released, you can at least rap along thanks to the official lyric video that went up on his YouTube page today. Guess I know what I'll be doing with the rest of my day.
