'Ain't Nobody' Can Do It Like Chaka, But Mary J. Blige Does A Good Job

When I first saw the tracklisting for Mary J. Blige's My Life II...The Journey Continues (Act 1), I played the pause card when I saw a song entitled "Ain't Nobody." Was this "Ain't Nobody" Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody" or a new "Ain't Nobody" that ain't nobody ever heard before? As I suspected, it was the former and not the latter, and it was with great trepidation that I listened to MJB's spin on this scorcher from Chaka's catalog. Let's be clear, Mary's "Ain't Nobody" is no Whitney Houston "I'm Every Woman" type remake where her version is almost as iconic as the original. Mary is aware of her vocal limitations and doesn't even try top Chaka much less match her fire. What she does do, however, is deliver a rendition that is in her lane, and it works thanks to Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins' handling and production. This track is a party starter. I predict that this song will fill dance floors at old head "grown and sexy" events from coast to coast, and I expect a new line dance to be choreographed to it in 5, 4, 3...
