Hot on the heels of dropping his Love & Stadiums II EP last week, pop/R&B singer Mateo has started a cover series, in which he'll be performing stripped-down covers of popular songs -- as well as a few of his own originals. For his first entry, he's decided to tackle Rihanna's earworm "We Found Love." As I've mentioned before, I'm all for singers covering Rihanna-bot's songs and improving upon them. Unfortunately, I can't say that Mateo did that (though anyone else singing the song is technically an improvement). Don't get me wrong, he's a great musician and a good performer (I've gotten to see him in action a few times), but I don't think his stripped down take really fits the song. Hopefully his next few entries in the series fare a bit better (it's said that his own "Love Is A Gun" and Adele's "Turning Tables" will be next). In the meantime, Love & Stadiums II, which is a pretty good effort, is available at iTunes and eMusic now. [H/T: CL]
