Usually for an artist to really grab, and hold, my attention I need to hear them singing original songs. Covers are all well and good, and they certainly help some to gain attention -- for both the right and wrong reasons -- but it's their own material that normally sets them apart from the pack. Well that idea has been tipped on its head somewhat by Jayanti, an independent singer/songwriter from Rotterdam. Her cover of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" for Holland's Got Soul 2012 caught our ear, but a quick look through her YouTube page shows she is no stranger at turning her hand to both classic and contemporary soul tracks, just take a listen to her versions of Al Green's "Simply Beautiful" and Floetry's "Say Yes" and you will see what we mean. You can also hit the bounce and watch as Jayanti takes on Minnie Riperton's "Inside My Love," with pretty phenomenal results. Someone sign this lady already.
