We're only three days deep into 2012, but some of the new tunes that we've heard thus far have gotten this year off to quite an exciting musical start. Here's another to add to the list with the release of Lyric Jones' "Loss On Repeat" featuring Esperanza Spalding. Yes, the GRAMMY winner lends her sweet voice to back up-and-coming femcee Lyric's impressive wordplay. Normally I'd scoff at a talent like Esperanza being relegated to singing a hook, but I'll take what I can get from Ms. Spalding right now until her forthcoming Radio Music Society drops. Plus, the marriage of Spalding's jazz stylings with Jones' hip-hop heat is a rather winning combination. Lyric Jones is no new jack to the scene, but, with this being my introduction to her and her music, I'm quite intrigued to hear more and will be perusing her Bandcamp page and awaiting her debut album, Jones St., to drop on February 7th.
