Esperanza Spalding Was 'Wonderful' On The Academy Awards

Despite the Best Song category in the 84th Annual Academy Awards being slimmer than Angelina Jolie's arms, there were a couple of highlights to be had for soul music lovers on last night's telecast. For starters, Pharrell Williams was brought on board as music consultant, and he could be seen with Sheila E. and other musicians in the mezzanine as part of the house band. The diversity didn't end there, however, with SoulBounce fave Esperanza Spalding providing the musical backdrop to the "In Memoriam" segment accompanied by the Southern California Children's Chorus. Esperanza was a vision of loveliness and sounded just as beautiful as she sang "What A Wonderful World." This performance was downright phenomenal and the perfect touch as photos of those who passed on since the last Academy Awards flashed on the screen. Listen to Esperanza performing on the Oscars after the bounce, and let's hope that she releases this as a single because this needs to be on our iPods alongside Radio Music Society when its released on March 20th.
