'This Time' Melanie Fiona & J. Cole Come Correct

The time is approaching for Melanie Fiona's sophomore set, The MF Life, to drop. Did you forget? I sorta did. Not to say I dislike Ms. Fiona, it's just that after these last couple of new tracks that she's dropped ("4AM" and "Wrong Side Of A Love Song," plus many others), I have been hearing the cries of "Hated it!" in the voices of Blaine Edwards and Antonie Merriweather from In Living Color in my ear after every listen. Not cool. So coming into this collaboration with her fellow Roc Nation label mate, J.Cole, I braced myself. With a clap-trap drum cadence for the beat back-up, Melanie once again gives a robust vocal pounce on "This Time," her official second single for The MF Life. So far so good. Then J. Cole throws in his usual rhyming game and well, he's mainly there for "moral support,", but that's a-OK, since this is a real slice of 21st century R&B. For the final verdict, I give a sigh of relief, as Melanie has that "I will survive" game down pact, which is a complete turn around from how emotionally weak she was on "It Kills Me" a couple of years back. Ah, progress. If you missed, Melanie Fiona on her vocal game on Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this week, check after the bounce for her performance of "4AM" as well as keep March 20th clear to listen to The MF Life when it drops.
