Cooly's Hot Box Serves Up Some 'Choice Cuts'

Before Angela Johnson went on to solo success and John-Christian Urich went on to front the popular live-house outfit Tortured Soul, they created beautiful music together as a part of Cooly's Hot Box and released two albums, Take It and Don't Be Afraid: Get On. I got put on to them years after they broke up when I came across Take It in a used CD store one day and scored quite the come up between the next-to-nothing sale price and the slamming tunes to be found on the record. That unexpected find was definitely a musical blessing. But for all of those out there who unlike myself never got a chance to get their hands on any music from Cooly's Hot Box, Urich and Johnson have decided to release Choice Cuts, a compilation of 14 songs culled from their two albums and singles. This new collection is the perfect introduction to a group who many be still be unfamiliar with but need to get hip to if a fan of acid jazz, soulful house vibes, and laid-back grooves. Choice Cuts is currently available from TSTC Records via Tortured Soul's Bandcamp page, and there's a special 25% sale happening there before its official iTunes release on May 8th. That is a bargain price to pay to finally have tracks like "Wasted Time," "14 Hours," "Are We Lovers Anymore," and "Touch My Body" in your possession. Give it a listen, and I'm sure you will agree.
