Lalah Hathaway & Frank McComb Channel Roberta & Donny On 'The Closer I Get To You'

Last month's grand opening gala of the Howard Theatre was the hottest ticket to be had in Washington, DC. Those who were in attendance got treated to a veritable who's who of soul and jazz talent at the exclusive black-tie affair. Two of the all-stars to grace the stage were Lalah Hathway and Frank McComb who blessed those who were there with a live performance of the Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway classic, "The Closer I Get To You." As always, Lalah did her daddy proud and did Roberta justice with her taking the reigns on the latter's vocals but not to be outdone was McComb who sounded like a cross between Donny and Stevie Wonder. Incredible is one of many words to come to mind to describe this amazing once-in-a-lifetime moment. Thankfully it was all caught on tape so that the rest of the world can witness these two masters at work. Hearing Lalah and Frank sing this song together, I think I might need a studio version in my life in the near future. If you're in the DMV area this weekend and want more Lalah in your life (and who doesn't?), then be sure to catch her solo show at the Howard Theatre on Saturday night.
